North Caucasus Federal University (NCFU) is one of ten federal universities in Russia, unique educational institutions created as part of the implementation of the priority national project “Education” as a new type of higher educational institution, an integrated complex of education, science and business, a center for innovative and technological development and training of international level personnel, designed to organize and coordinate work in the North Caucasian Federal District on the balanced provision of major programs of socio-economic development of the region.

North Caucasian Federal University was established in 2012 in accordance with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated July 18, 2011 No. 958 and the order of the Government of the Russian Federation dated February 22, 2012 No. 226-r on the basis of the three largest universities in Stavropol – North Caucasian State Technical University, Stavropol State University, Pyatigorsk State Humanitarian and Technological University.
