Russian State Geological Exploration University, named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze is a university based in Moscow, Russia, specializing in geology, geophysics and other earth-science disciplines.

Russian State Geological Exploration University is a state higher educational institution in Russia which began its academic activities in 1930. The central building of the educational institution is located in the capital of Russia – Moscow.

The institute moved to a new campus in southwestern Moscow in 1987 and was given state accreditation in 2007. Today, the university has 6 faculties which provide students in 22 areas of training and 55 areas of specializations of full-time and part-time departments of study.

Among the graduates of MGRI are geologists, paleontologists, hydrogeologists, geophysicists, drillers, gemologists, mining engineers and economists, specialists in engineering geology, ecology, who have made a significant contribution to the development of the exploration and mining industries in Russian Federation.
